Video games used to be a simple, entertaining way to pass time. But as avid gamers know, modern games create fully immersive worlds filled with unique characters, vehicles, weapons, and landscapes. Many gamers log countless hours questing and fighting off foes.
When it comes to first-person shooter games, Battlefield 1 is a top choice for gamers. It takes you back to World War I, which birthed the modern warfare we’ve studied in history books. The game is heavily focused on the vehicles and weaponry that was newly developed during that time, allowing the battles to cross land, air, and sea.
From cavalry horses to flying zeppelins, Battlefield 1 allows you to control a number of vehicles. Some—like a scout car or motorcycle—can be operated by one player, while others—like a torpedo boat or tank—require a team of players for effective gameplay. In fact, some battle maneuvers can only be successfully accomplished by a team of 64 players working together.
In addition to the assorted battle vehicles, you can also choose from environments located across the globe. Visit the Italian Alps, besieged cities in France, the vast Arabian deserts, and other backdrops with changing weather patterns. Battlefield 1 has honed the physics of gameplay to be more true to real life. This means that in-game rain can affect your ability to conduct airstrikes, and a plane hit by gunfire will react to the damage and decreased aerodynamics.
One of the more iconic vehicles in the game is the British Mark IV tank, which can cross over trenches with its giant treads. As far as tanks go, this one is quite maneuverable over various types of terrain. Operating the tank with the help of other players allows you to cover every angle with the turrets and cannons.
This particular tank caught the eye of a Provident staff member while playing Battlefield 1 because it resembles the privy mark on the 2016 1 oz Canadian Silver Maple Mark V Tank Privy. Provident designed the tank privy mark specifically for the Royal Canadian Mint, modeled after a real-life tank that is very similar to the one found in the game. We thought it was so neat to make a connection between the gaming industry and the bullion market.
With so many bullion options and designs available, you’re sure to find a coin, round, or bar that fits within your interests as well. And we’d love to hear about your interests! Tell us about a hobby you enjoy during your free time, whether video games or something else entirely.

During the summer I like to go canoeing and during the winter I like to research precious metals and read!
