Provident is proud to offer the new Canadian Silver Lynx, which is the second silver coin to be released in the Predator series by the Royal Canadian Mint. It follows the Silver Cougar in a series that, once finished, will include four coins featuring iconic North America’s mammalian predators. The beautiful Silver Lynx is made with a variety of techniques and finishes in order to capture the depth and detail to bring this large cat to life.
Like many RCM coins, the Silver Lynx consists of one troy ounce of .9999 fine silver and includes a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, in celebration of her long reign as a British monarch. You’ll also find an inscription that denotes the coin’s legal tender value of five Canadian dollars.
The reverse is where you’ll find the Canada Lynx, designed by Canadian artist Emily Damstra. The lynx leaps downward to its prey over a field of radial lines, which enhance the coin’s security. The Canada Lynx is a medium-sized predatory cat that is identifiable by its short tail, long ear tufts, and large paws that act like snowshoes in frigid winters. Lynx have very strong eyesight and hearing, which help them hunt. They play an important ecological role since they target small prey that reproduce quickly, like rabbits.
Lynx are mostly found in the boreal forests throughout Canada and Alaska. Their population also extends into the northern states of America, though their numbers decrease further south. These cats are solitary animals and like most felines, lynx are nocturnal, hunting mostly at night.
For those interested in wildlife, the Silver Lynx coin is a great addition to your silver bullion collection. With a limited mintage of only 500,000 coins, don’t miss your opportunity to own this beautiful piece of Canadian history! We also have a few Silver Cougar coins left, buy one today!
