Introducing the Canadian Gold Elk

In addition to a fine selection of Canadian gold, Provident is proud to offer the 2017 Gold Elk from the Royal Canadian Mint. This gold coin is the fourth release in the Call of the Wild series, following the 2015 Howling Wolf, the 2015 Growling Cougar and the 2016 Roaring Grizzly Bear. It’s a series that features some of Canada’s wildlife “calling” to the skies.

These Canadian gold coins are made of one troy ounce of .99999 fine gold, which is the highest standard for pure gold available on the bullion market. In addition to high purity, Gold Elks also carry a legal tender value of $200, the highest face value of any legal tender one ounce gold coin.

Like many of Canada’s coins, the Gold Elk’s obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, in celebration of her long reign as a monarch. The reverse features an elk that was sculpted by Pierre Leduc. This beautiful design showcases the elk’s elegant antlers. Found predominantly in western Canada, elk are a member of the deer family. They spend much of their time grazing and browsing for food that helps sustain them during cold winters. Wolves, cougars, and bears are all natural predators of elk.

Underneath the elk’s neck, you’ll find the micro-engraved maple leaf-shaped privy mark that is common on many RCM coins. The number “17” is inscribed inside of the leaf to denote the year of issue. The mark is a security feature that helps with authenticating RCM coins. A second security feature is the credit card-sized assay card that encases the Gold Elk, along with the rest of the Call of the Wild series. The packaging is decorated with maple leaves, and it protects the coin from scratches and other blemishes. Each assay card is signed by the RCM’s Chief Assayer to guarantee the coin’s quality and it’s brilliant uncirculated condition.

The Gold Elk is a wonderful addition to any bullion collection with a focus on nature and/or Canadian coinage. Don’t miss your opportunity to get your own piece of the Canadian wilderness today!
