Republican senators have written a new proposed bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. The goal of the bill is to remove strict federal rules and provide more flexibility to states in regards to providing residents with health care. Under this bill, federal funding for Medicaid and ACA subsidies would shrink, and funding for Medicaid expansion would be eliminated. Instead, states would each receive a lump sum with which they can help residents pay for health care. The Congressional Budget Office is still crunching numbers to see how this would affect Americans and the federal budget. Meanwhile, a group of governors from both parties are urging against this new bill, and instead asking senators to find a more bipartisan approach. This new bill has not yet been voted on.
