Final Mintage of Black Horse of Famine

The Black Horse of Famine, from Provident’s Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse series, concluded its run yesterday and has now been discontinued. The third release in the 4H series was available for three months and we’ve crunched the numbers to give you the mintage information.

The final mintage of the Black Horse silver round is 15,237, and the final mintage of the copper round is 12,730. Meanwhile, the previous 4H rounds have continued to perform well on the secondary market, consistently selling for more than their original price.

As the Black Horse exits, the Pale Horse of Death takes centerstage as our last 4H round. It was released simultaneously with a 10 oz silver bar featuring all four horsemen that will continue to be produced after the Pale Horse’s discontinuation.

One of the ways we gauge the projected success of a product is to look at the first two days of sales, when excitement over the new release is high. In the first two days of sales, the White Horse silver round sold 3,131 pieces and the copper round sold 2,035 pieces. The Red Horse silver round sold 3,401 pieces and the copper round sold 2,345 pieces. The Black Horse silver round sold 4,798 pieces and the copper round sold 3,276 pieces. And the brand new Pale Horse of Death silver round sold 4,380 pieces, while the copper round sold 5,473 pieces in the first two days of availability.

Though the first three designs in BU format are no longer in production, you can still buy NGC certified versions of these rounds in both proof and antiqued finishes. For those who have purchased the series’ slabbed rounds, we offer a specially designed 4H box to store and display your collection.
