There’s no more denying that summer has arrived. Temperatures are climbing, which means donning shorts, swimming over weekends, and cooling down with frozen treats. While heat is on your mind, we want to share a neat trick with you!
Identifying a precious metal can be done in many ways, often with inexpensive equipment at home. One of the easiest home tests allows you to see if a silver-colored metal is actually made of silver.
Silver is a great conductor of both electricity and thermal energy, the latter of which makes it easy to test the metal. If you’re wondering if a coin, round, or bar is made of real silver, simply place an ice cube on top of it. Real silver will cause the ice to begin melting immediately, at a much faster rate than would be caused by most other room temperature objects. This happens because silver rapidly transfers heat to the ice.
If only we could transfer heat away from our bodies during the hottest time of year! What’s your favorite way of staying cool during summer? Let us know in the comments section below to enter our July giveaway. That’s right, entering is as easy as leaving a comment! Make sure your comment is sent in by July 23, 2017. One winner will be randomly selected on July 24, 2017 to receive a Red Horse of War silver AND copper round.
Best of luck and happy summer!

Sitting around in my grandmother’s back porch turned-greenhouse with the ceiling fan on used to be the best way to spend a summer day many years ago. Reading books, listening to music or dramatized audiobooks, watching the sunset, and just listening to the crickets at night was just relaxing and surprisingly cool thanks to the mesh windows and fan. Nowadays? Drinking boba at a bakery isn’t bad.

When the mercury hits close to 100 I head for my home river and fly fish by wet wading. Morning noon or evening are all good. Just wading shoes, shorts, shirt, hat, vest and rod and away I go. Bring some water also unless you want to risk getting Giardia by drinking the cool, clear river water.
