Each month, Provident Metals enjoys featuring products and global mints that are producing some of the finest coins to grace this Earth. This month, we’ve decided to feature one of our favorite newly established mints, the Intaglio Mint. Established in 2010, this privately held mint refers to itself as “boutique.” With a team of industry professionals, the Intaglio Mint’s goal since its inception has been to mint coins that are works of art—keepsakes to be applauded and passed down from generation to generation. As a leader in the design and production of high-quality bullion coins, many of which are created to commemorate icons and events from the past, their products speak for themselves.
We are proud to offer the Intaglio Mint’s exquisitely designed coins to our customers. With their high-grade and meticulous craftsmanship, these pieces are sure to catch the eye of any collector or coin investor. The particular Intaglio Mint products we provide are silver rounds struck in high relief from two ounces of .999 pure silver. Each of these coins is durable and beautiful, with an expertly designed obverse and reverse and an alluring reeded edge. Here are just a few of the incredible Intaglio silver rounds we offer.
Getz Washington
Starting with the founder of the United States, the Silver Getz Washington is not only a tribute to George Washington but a nod to one of the earliest minted drafts for official American coinage.
Robert Morris, then head of the Senate coinage committee since 1791, asked engravers such as Peter Getz to create sample coins in anticipation of the federal mint. Getz produced the Silver Washington prototype in 1792, minting only 30-40 coins, all struck at the coach house of John Harper. The equipment Getz used to mint these coins was later moved to Philadelphia, the site of the first U.S. Mint. This Intaglio-minted coin is a delight for any collector, solely for the history behind Getz’s design. Struck from 2-oz .999 pure silver and featuring Getz’s 1792 pre-U.S.-Mint prototype design, this coin is a worthy possession, and one that is expected to become a signature item within your collection.
Lincoln
As part of Intaglio Mint’s Presidential Tribute Series, the Lincoln Silver Round was minted to present the noteworthy history of one of America’s greatest presidents. A man born from humble beginnings, who worked his way into a position of power as a lawyer and eventually became the President of the United States, and one who reunited the Union following the Civil War and who abolished slavery across the nation, this is someone wholly deserving of patriotic recognition. The Intaglio Mint’s Lincoln coin is a work of beauty, minted in high relief from .999 pure silver, featuring a bust of Lincoln on its obverse and the nation’s American Eagle on its reverse. With its wonderfully reeded edge, coming in at 6mm thick, this coin is a delight to hold in one’s hand and to view among a mounting collection of coins.
Molon Labe
The Intaglio Mint’s Molon Labe Silver Round is an exquisite coin created for the preservation of King Leonidas I’s and his Spartan warriors’ notable history. In 480 BC, the Battle of Thermopylae took place, when King Leonidas I led his Spartan warriors against Xerxes I and the Persian Army. Heavily outnumbered by Xerxes Persian Army, the Spartans were told to lay down their weapons for amnesty. To this, Leonidas responded in his native Greek: “molon labe!” or “come and take!” The Spartans fought valiantly but were ultimately defeated by the larger Persian Army. The story might sound familiar, and for good reason: It has become a part of classical history, even permeating modern popular culture—the 2007 film 300 is a depiction of this battle between the Spartans and Persians.
The obverse of the Intaglio coin features the profile of a Spartan soldier mid-battle, a spear raised before him, prepared to strike. The reverse side features the Intaglio Mint logo set on a burst, surrounded by a textured background and the details of the silver round coin. For classical history lovers, this is a gift that cannot go overlooked.
For nearly a decade, the Intaglio Mint has been regularly producing coins that stand out—ones that are made of high-grade materials, are visually stunning, and which would make any collector proud to own. If you have any questions about the Intaglio silver rounds we carry or any other coins you should expect to see released by the mint, don’t hesitate to contact one of our representatives!
