The blue whale is the world’s largest living animal and is one of the largest animals to ever live on planet Earth. Roaming beneath the seas in each and every ocean on Earth, the blue whale as it exists today has been around since the Middle Pleistocene era some 1.5 to 1.25 million years ago. It might seem impossible to see such a large animal up close, but you can do the next best thing by owning a stirring rendition of the massive creature on the latest release of the World’s Wildlife Series. The latest foreign silver coins available from Provident Metals, there are two exciting collectible options available in this series.
Congo Blue Whale Designs
The reverse field of the 2020 Congo Whale 1 oz Silver Coins features a rare look at the blue whale as only a few get to see it in person. The blue whale is known to burst above the surface of the ocean to hoist its massive frame into the air to make a stunning splashback down into the water. Propelling nearly 200,000 pounds into the air is no small feat, and though it is temporary, it is impressive to see such a large animal out of the water. In this design element, the whale has crested the surface of the ocean and is preparing to land back in the water on its back. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read “The Whale” and “World’s Wildlife,” with a small image of the globe at the bottom rim.
On the obverse side of 2020 Congo Whale Silver Coins is a depiction of the national coat of arms from the Democratic Republic of Congo. At the center of the design is an image of a leopard’s face with the mouth open and the teeth exposed. The rest of the seal consists of a pedestal with a ribbon bearing the national motto “Justice, Paix, Travail,” with an elephant tusk and a spear flanking the image of the leopard’s head. Inscriptions on this side of the coin include “Republique Democratique du Congo” along the top and “20 Francs” below. Within the design field, you will find a date mark of “2020” and the markings “1 oz Ag 999.9.”
World’s Wildlife Series Finishes
While the highest minted coin in the series is the 1 oz Brilliant Uncirculated coin, there are two collectible versions of the BU coin with distinctive twists. Provident Metals carries both the colorized and gilded versions of the 2020 Congo Whale Silver Coin. The reverse face of the 2020 Colorized Congo Whale 1 oz Silver Coin depicts the natural splendor of the blue whale in its native environment. The tint of the ocean is a perfect blue-green with the body of the whale shown in its traditional blue-gray-white skin. The sky in the background is a perfect blue for a sunny day and the puffy clouds in the sky are a brilliant white. The 2020 Congo Whale 1 oz Silver Gilded Coin offers the same beautiful designs with selective 24-karat gold layering. In this case, the gold application is limited to the body of the whale, but notably not the splashes of water coming off its body. The inscriptions of “The Whale,” the block of text at the bottom, and the planets in the globe design all also have the 24-karat gold layer.

The female of the species is the larger of the two, with the average female from the North Atlantic subspecies reaching a length around 92 feet in total. These same females can reach an average weight of an astonishing 224,000 pounds, a similar weight to the average of females from the Antarctic.
