The Perth Mint released its popular Marvel Series of Tuvalu silver coins in 2017. The debut issue of the series was one of the fastest-selling in the series to date, with the Spiderman coin releasing in advance of a restart of the Spiderman feature film franchise. The series was initially promoted as a six-coin release, but its popularity pushed the Perth Mint to continue releasing new designs. With a total of nine coins now available, the Wolverine 1 oz Silver Coin is the first 2021-dated coin in the series.
Wolverine Reverse
The reverse field of 2021 Tuvalu Wolverine Marvel Series 1 oz Silver Coin includes a depiction of the antihero. One of Marvel’s early antihero characters, Wolverine is famous for his brute strength and short temper. He can easily be goaded into a fight, but he has a good chance of coming out the victor in most fights he finds himself involved in. His aggressive nature is evident in his physically imposing stance and the fact that his adamantium claws are out. He’s clearly ready for a fight. The inscriptions on this face of the coin include “Wolverine” and the copyright for “Marvel.”
Queen Elizabeth II Obverse
On the obverse side of the Tuvalu Wolverine Marvel Series Silver Coins is a bust of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the fifth-generation effigy of the Queen featured on coins of the Commonwealth outside of Britain. The effigy was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley and showcases the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara on the Queen’s head. The inscriptions around the design element include “Queen Elizabeth II,” “Tuvalu 1 Dollar,” and “1 oz 9999 Ag 2021.”

History of Wolverine
Wolverine made his debut in Marvel Comics in October 1974 when he appeared in the final panel of The Incredible Hulk #180. The next release in that series saw Wolverine take on a larger roll. He was later placed in the comics of the revamped superhero team known as the X-Men. Wolverine became the basis upon which later antiheroes would be styled. Created in the aftermath of the Vietnam War and influenced by American popular culture of the 1970s, Wolverine was depicted as a character with a brooding nature and a willingness to use deadly force. In the 21st century, actor Hugh Jackman propelled the character to new heights with his portrayals of Wolverine in several X-Men feature films. Wolverine went on to become the most popular character from X-Men franchise and earned his own spinoff film.
The Marvel Juggernaut
Wolverine has appeared across a wide range of Marvel franchise elements, from comics and video games to feature films. The Marvel Cinematic Universe formed in the 21st century to coordinate the development and release of feature films with its most popular comic characters. As of November 2020, the films have generated $22.56 billion globally. The popularity of Marvel feature films has overflown into the precious metals industry, where mints around the globe have been producing collectible bullion coins bearing the images of the most popular characters.
The Perth Mint Marvel Series started in 2017 with the Spiderman release. The most robust year was 2018 when four coins were issued around the release of four major feature films. Those coins represented Thor, Black Panther, Iron Man, and Deadpool. The 2019 release saw images for Captain America and Hulk, followed by Venom in 2020.
